Trump Announces Immediate Action to Cut Federal Assistance Americans Depend On
This Harmful Action will Impact Thousands of Virginia Beach Residents, Especially Local Veterans
Virginia Beach, VA – On Monday, President Trump announced an immediate cut to federal funds in the form of loan disbursements and grants. Virginia Beach families are the recipients of over $631 million in federal aid, including over $18 million for local veterans. Cutting this aid means thousands of Virginians will not have access to essential services and many basic needs will go unmet so that Republicans can give more tax breaks to the wealthy and corporations.
“As a veteran myself who has depended on many programs designed to support those who’ve fought for our country, it’s enraging to see Trump come for another earned benefit,” said Heidi Dragneff. “VA loans are essential to helping veterans and their families get set up in civilian life, and we cannot forget the thousands of veterans who experience homelessness each year. We cannot leave these families behind, and we must put a stop to these actions before Trump erodes what little is left. As a veteran herself, Rep. Kiggans should be ashamed and first in line to protect these programs.”
“This broad stroke includes everything from Meals on Wheels to WIC and federal student loans,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaign Director. “Trump’s order is a direct attack on hard-working Virginians and their families. Our veteran community is especially vulnerable. Families hoping to buy a home, or just afford rent will lose opportunities previously provided through HUD. Children will lose access to healthy foods made available through WIC and at school. Our local schools will lose federal funding. We cannot let our seniors, veterans, and children go hungry to pay for billionaires’ next tax cut. We are asking Rep. Jen Kiggans to stand up for her constituents and reign Trump in and stop holding the most vulnerable hostage.”
