Affordable Virginia Calls on Rep. Jen Kiggans To Reject Extreme Budget That Guts Veterans’ Benefits

Activists are Calling on their Congresswoman not to Cut Medicaid, SNAP, and other Benefits Veterans in Virginia Beach Rely On

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – As the House prepares to vote on a budget resolution later today, Affordable Virginia calls on Rep. Jen Kiggans to put working families first and reject this proposal. This comes at the heels of multiple grassroots gatherings and rallies calling on Rep. Jen Kiggans to stand up against the extreme agenda being pushed in Washington.

“This budget resolution is a direct attack on working people, plain and simple. If Rep. Kiggans votes for it, she’s voting to take away health care, food assistance, and support for thousands of Virginians in Hampton Roads,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia. “Despite being a veteran herself, she continues to vote against veterans’ programs. Despite acknowledging how much her constituents would benefit from energy tax credits, she voted against them. Despite over 100,000 Hampton Roads residents relying on Medicaid, she would play politics with their health. There is no denying that Rep. Kiggans has been feeling the heat from her constituents. Jen Kiggans: stand with Virginia families, don’t sell them out to billionaires.”

The budget resolution directs the Energy and Commerce Committee to find at least $880 billion in cuts, a move many lawmakers say would gut Medicaid. It also paves the way for deep cuts to SNAP, childcare subsidies, and veterans benefits, leaving millions of working families wondering where their healthcare coverage or next meal will come from.
