Rep. Jen Kiggans JUST Voted to Support Gutting Medicaid and  SNAP

More Than 100,000 Virginians Would Be Affected

Virginia Beach, VA – Today, Rep. Jen Kiggans voted on a budget resolution that would slash programs for veterans, Medicaid, SNAP, and access to Social Security. She also voted to support President Trump’s actions on tariffs. Currently, the budget resolution extends the regressive 2017 Republican Tax Law and hands even more massive breaks to the ultra-wealthy.

“As an educator, I understand the value nutrition has on the academic and social-emotional success of our learners,” said Danielle Coughlin, Smithfield resident. “The cuts being made to SNAP will affect thousands of students across Hampton Roads. Between this and the dismantling of the Department of Education, Representative Kiggans demonstrates that she does not have our children’s best interests at heart. Our government has a responsibility to support our most vulnerable as we live up to our American ideals; these cuts serve those who need help the least, billionaires.”

“Tax loopholes have been benefiting billionaires and corporations for far too long,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “People are worried about losing access to healthcare, many require care from specialists who may be farther away, and Representative Kiggans is making it more difficult for her constituents instead of easier. We know that it is not possible to cut $880 billion from a committee without making major cuts to working Virginians’ Medicaid. Billionaires need to be paying their fair share in taxes, working families are already being asked to sacrifice too much. By supporting these cuts, Representative Kiggans is betraying her constituents.”
