NEW AD: Virginia Beach Mom and Veteran Calls Out Rep. Jen Kiggans For Raising Costs
Affordable Virginia Launches New TV Ad, As Part of $1.8M Accountability Campaign Calling Out the Virginia Beach Congresswoman
Virginia Beach, VA – Today, Affordable Virginia released a third television ad as part of a $1.8 million campaign across radio, TV, digital, and print media, calling out Rep. Jen Kiggans for voting to hike everyday costs for Virginia families and cut funding for essential child care programs. The ad, Serve, calls on her to support the Biden Administration’s budget and work to lower the cost of energy bills, grocery costs, and child care.
The ad released today features a constituent of Rep. Kiggans, Navy veteran, and mother of three, Heidi.
“Rep. Jen Kiggan’s voting record hits hard where it hurts most: families. It’s a blow to hard working moms like me when Jen Kiggans votes to increase child care, energy, and grocery costs,” said Heidi. “We need representatives who prioritize the well-being of families over corporate interests, and that is why I am calling on her to support the Biden Administration’s budget and fight to lower everyday costs for Virginia families.”
Heidi is referring to the Default on America Act, which Kiggans voted for and included harmful cuts across the board, including child care funding, food assistance for women, children, and infants, and energy bill assistance. By contrast, the Biden Administration’s budget would expand access to high-quality, affordable child care, lower energy costs for everyday families, and provide resources so that hardworking Virginians can afford to put food on the table.
Full script to Serve below,
“As a mom of three, my days start early.
Serving in the Navy taught me discipline,
and now I’m using it to serve my family here in Virginia Beach.
But Congresswoman Jen Kiggans voted to hike our everyday costs.
Food, child care, energy bills.
She voted to make things harder for families like ours.
I’ve served my country. We need our representatives to serve us.
Tell Congresswoman Kiggans, stop voting to raise our costs.”
Default on America Act Impacts:
Higher Child Care Costs: This bill would mean 3,600 children in Virginia lose access to Head Start slots and 2,300 children lose access to child care.
Higher Energy Costs: This bill would raise Virginians’ energy costs by repealing tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act that could save families more than $1,800 a year on energy costs, alleviating monthly bills.
Higher Food Costs: This bill would increase the cost of food and cut food assistance for 25,000 women, children, and infants in Virginia.
Biden Administration Budget Impacts:
Affordable Child Care: This budget would create a program that will guarantee working families making under $200,000 per year affordable child care from birth until kindergarten, with most eligible families paying no more than $10 a day. The bill also establishes universal free preschool for all four year olds.
Lower Energy Costs: This budget would lower energy costs through clean energy investments and increasing funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
Helps Food Costs for Vulnerable Virginians: This budget fully funds WIC, helping women and children receiving nutrition assistance through the program, and additionally increases funding for nutrition programs for seniors.
