Family Friendly Virginia Launches Nearly $2 Million Program Urging Congresswoman Jen Kiggans to Side With Working Families Over Corporations and the Wealthy

Plane With Banner Reading “Kiggans Costs Too Much” Will Fly Over Virginia Beach and Rep. Kiggans’ District Offices

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Affordable Virginia, a new initiative launched by Family Friendly Virginia, today announced a nearly $2 million program calling on Congresswoman Jen Kiggans to stop siding with corporations and the ultra-wealthy and start fighting for policies that will lower costs for working families as Congress returns from recess this month.

"Families in Virginia's 2nd Congressional District need relief," said Kristina Hagen, director of Family Friendly Virginia. "Child care costs are skyrocketing; health care costs are out of control. We need a champion who will fight to bring down costs instead of lining the pockets of the wealthy and well-connected. As she returns to Washington later this month, we are calling on Representative Kiggans to start putting working families first."

“We need elected officials to adopt policies that don’t leave anyone out, and reflect the needs of everyday people,” said Chrischa Ives of Virginia Beach. “When Representative Jen Kiggans sides with corporations and the wealthy, it places an overwhelming cost on families that are just trying to get by.”

“When she was sworn in, Representative Kiggans promised to get to work for families like mine,” said Heidi Dragneff of Virginia Beach. “But then, she voted for a bill that would defund the Department of Veteran Affairs and drastically reduce the VA’s ability to provide veterans with the care and benefits they have earned. She voted for a bill that would yank thousands of children out of child care, leaving families to scramble and driving up child care costs.”

Now, as Representative Kiggins returns to Congress after the recess, the Affordable Virginia campaign will call on her to support policies that will lower costs for working families. This includes policies that will expand health care benefits, make child care more affordable, and support veterans by strengthening the health care and benefits that they have earned. It will include robust investments in digital and TV advertising so that Virginia residents can make their voices heard.

The campaign will kick off Sept. 1 with a plane flyover with a clear message: Kiggans Costs Too Much. The plane and its banner will be visible over different parts of the district from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. with a flight path that includes two of Rep. Kiggans’ district offices:

  • ~ 11:00, Virginia Beach coastline

  • ~ 12:15, flyover of Rep. Kiggans’ Virginia Beach district office: 283 Constitution Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23462

  • ~ 1:00, flyover of Rep. Kiggans’ Suffolk district office: 130 S. Saratoga Street, Suffolk, VA 23434

Throughout the campaign, Virginia residents will make their voices and priorities known to Congresswoman Kiggans.
