Affordable Virginia Highlights the Benefits of an Expanded Child Tax Credit for Working Families

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Today, Affordable Virginia, an organization advocating for policies that support economic fairness for working families, applauds efforts to expand the Child Tax Credit (CTC) up to $6,000 for families and newborns. When the CTC was expanded under the American Rescue Plan, it benefited over 1.6 million children in Virginia. This new proposal has the potential to improve the lives of even more children in Virginia, particularly in low- and middle-income households.

"An expanded Child Tax Credit of up to $6,000 could be life-changing for families right here in Virginia. By making these enhancements permanent, families can have the tools and opportunities they need to build a better life for themselves,” saidEmily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaign Director. "When you're living paycheck to paycheck, the Child Tax Credit gives you hope and helps afford basic necessities, like school supplies, healthy food, and child care. It’s about ensuring that parents have an opportunity to provide their children with a shot at a healthy and successful future.”
