Affordable Virginia Calls Out Rep. Kiggans’ Vote on Continuing Resolution
Affordable Virginia Urges House Republicans to Fully Fund Essential Services
Virginia Beach, VA – Affordable Virginia calls out Rep. Jen Kiggans' recent vote in favor of the GOP-led Continuing Resolution (CR), which neglects the critical needs of veterans, seniors, and working families in Virginia. The resolution fails to ensure adequate funding for essential services that many Virginians depend on, including over 300,000 veterans.
“Rep. Kiggans has, time and time, again claimed to stand up for seniors, but her voting record, along with this current vote tells an entirely different story. Not getting the proper funding in place for the Social Security Administration will make it harder for the seniors in her district to access their benefits, and runs the risk of increased wait times and decreased services,” said Emily Yeatts, Campaign Director of Affordable Virginia. “If she truly cared about seniors, she would fight for them. We urge Rep. Kiggans to reconsider her position and advocate for a budget that fully funds both veterans’ healthcare and Social Security.”
The CR excludes additional funding for veterans' healthcare, and without this additional funding, the Veterans Affairs will be unable to provide medical care to all veterans as needed. Additionally, the CR excluded additional funds for the Social Security Administration, meaning seniors across Virginia would face longer wait times and reduced access to benefits.
The House voted 202-220 against this Continuing Resolution. Lawmakers in DC have until September 30th to avoid a government shutdown.
